New Nephew: Nicholas Lamar Harding Breshears

Nicholas Lamar Harding Breshears "Nico" was born on August 5, 2009. He weighed 8lbs 2 oz, 19 1/2 inches long. He has light brown hair (the same as Lamar & Miles).

Lamar & Nico meeting for the first time. Nico must have been in a hurry to get here, so Lamar didn't quite make it to the hospital in time for his birth. Lamar is currently training with his guys at Camp Pendleton in So. Calif. They leave the 1st of Nov. for Afghanistan (Lamar's 3rd tour over there--though the others were to Iraq), so they have been busy with preparations. He did his best to get back to Salt Lake, but Nico was quick in his arrival! He has to return Sunday and is grateful to have a few days to spend with Sarah and the boys.
Lamar said: Miles is thrilled to have a little brother. He calls Nicholas "baby brother" or "baby Nico". We've caught him several times trying to wake him up so that they can "play".
Lamar told me that his only worry is that Miles is a little too excited to "play" with and hold Nicholas and that they plan to keep a close eye out so that he doesn't try to "sooth" the baby when he cries (by trying to get him out of the crib/bassinet).
You really do forget how little they are when they are first born!
Lamar said he sleeps a lot! And makes little squeaky noises if he needs something. When he's really hungry, he said Nico just squeaks even louder.

So cute! I know Lamar will miss the first few months with Nicholas, since he and Miles have always had such a close bond. But I'm sure Sarah will do a good job balancing the boys while he is away. According to Lamar, everything went very well with labor and delivery and baby Nico and big brother Miles are doing excellent. Congratulations you guys! Hopefully, we'll get to see you in October for Nico's blessing!

Most of these are just the kids running around. We were trying to figure out how to "control" my camera. I have been SO frustrated not knowing how to unleash its capabilities... with the help of Arya's expertise and a lot of practice, I will soon be able to take "professional quality" pictures of my own kids. (Which is good, because poor Kate has never had a professional picture taken and she's a week away from her 1st birthday!)

I only put this on here because I'm sure it's the only time in my life I have looked like an angel... with the light coming through? Maybe not; anyway... I thought it was funny.

Ruth and Jackson developed an immediate love/hate relationship... the kind you have with your cousins when you're little. Definitely a good mix of bugging each other and loving each other.

Ruth was so cute; she asked if she could hold Kate... all the while Kate is standing there in front of her (they aren't dramatically different in size). I tried not to laugh, but said sure if she'll let you. Ruth was able to get her just a few inches off of the ground. Eventually, Arya picked her up and Ruth jumped up on her lap too. Ruth was content just being able to sit next to her and hug her and I think Kate was a little more comfortable with this scenario too! ;-)


Ruth has two big brothers, so I think she especially liked the idea of a baby GIRL to play with.

Arya, thank you a million times over for being so patient and taking the time to come to my house (sometimes a little crazy) and give me some pointers in using my camera. You're the best!
After she left, I tried to practice a little. Some are better than others. Jackson was taking a much needed nap (I let him stay up to play with Ruth, so he was quite tired by the time they left), so I just followed Kate around with the camera while she played.

"Baby" Kate is getting SO big! I know I keep saying that on different posts, but she is almost ONE!!! Where does the time go?


She's making that funny noise with her lips here... kind of rolling her lips... like what horses do... I don't know how to describe that. Anyway, that's what she is doing.

Eating my lens cap... she thinks everything is etible. Not kidding. Yesterday, I caught her bent over in the kitchen on all fours, licking the grout between the tiles. Gross. I have serious doubts about whether or not her taste buds work!

I think these pictures would make a good story board... love the expressions. Once I get a handle on my camera, I will probably have to break down and buy photoshop or something so that I can do fun things with my pictures and not feel so bad about not taking my kids to get professionals done.

Driving home...

Parker's uncle was in charge of their reunion this year. He and his wife decided to have us stay at Flagg Ranch--2 miles from Yellowstone (it says resort, but we were camping in tents... it's a campground), where his dad (Parker's grandpa) grew up and where he eventually met his wife (Parker's grandma). It was fun to hang out, though I wish we could have stayed one more day. (It was a long way to drive in the car for just one day.) The kids and I hadn't been to Yellowstone before so that was a fun place for us to visit/see. Also, Jackson Hole is only about an hour from where we stayed. We drove through it to get to the campsite. On the way back, we stopped to play at a park, walk around downtown and see a little of where Parker was born and spent the first few years of his life. The kids got shirts that say Jackson on them... especially fun for Jackson who was named after Parker's birthplace.

It's definitely pretty out there. I would move there if it wasn't so expensive and wasn't so far from everything!

I wanted to get a picture of Jackson and Parker in front of the "Jackson" sign, but left my camera in the car while we were walking around and that place is a zoo in the summer time!!! You would think you were in Disneyland or something! I was disappointed, but Parker (who is a natural at looking on the bright side) said, that gives us a good excuse to come back again sometime.
